The Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka (CAASL) wishes to inform the public that the Sri Lanka Civil Aviation Implementing Standards (SLCAIS) 053 – Edition 02 has been officially published on 01st March 2025. The applicability of this new edition is governed by the provisions outlined under ‘Entry into Force and Applicability.’

We will continue to provide updates on this page as new provisions come into effect.

As of 01st March 2025, several provisions of SLCAIS 053 – Edition 02 have been implemented. The key areas affected are as follows:

  1. Obligations for UAS Importers, Sellers, Manufacturers, Assemblers, and Repair & Maintenance Organizations have been revised in accordance with Sections 13, 14, 15, 16, and 17 of SLCAIS 053 – Edition 02.
  2. General provisions and prohibitions related to UAS operations have been updated as per Section 18.
  3. Accident and incident reporting requirements for UAS operations have been amended as per Section 19.
  4. Offences and penalties concerning UAS operations have been enforced in accordance with Section 20.
  5. The maximum operational altitude for UAS operations has been revised to 400 feet (120 meters) above ground level.
