The Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka (CAASL), under the leadership of Captain Daminda Rambukwella, Director General of Civil Aviation and Chief Executive Officer, successfully conducted an Aviation Awareness Programme at Colombo International Airport, Ratmalana, on 22 June 2026.

The programme was graced by Mr. Tao Ma, Regional Director of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Asia and Pacific Office, whose participation provided a valuable opportunity for aspiring aviation professionals to gain insights from one of the region's foremost aviation leaders.

In his remarks, Captain Rambukwella emphasized the importance of nurturing the next generation of aviation professionals and equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and leadership qualities required to support the continued growth and sustainability of the aviation sector. He highlighted CAASL's commitment to fostering talent development and strengthening the country's aviation workforce through education, engagement, and industry collaboration.

A key highlight of the programme was an interactive engagement session between Mr. Tao Ma and students representing the aviation training institutions operating at Ratmalana Airport. The session provided participants with a unique platform to engage directly with the ICAO Regional Director, exchanging views on global aviation developments, emerging technologies, workforce challenges, leadership, and future career opportunities within industry. The students actively participated in the discussion, making the session both insightful and inspiring.

The programme also featured a panel discussion comprising senior aviation professionals, who shared their expertise and experiences across various sectors of the aviation industry. The discussion offered participants valuable perspectives on industry trends, professional development, and the diverse career pathways available within civil aviation.

The event further included a visit to airport facilities, providing participants with practical exposure to airport operations and the broader aviation environment.

The Aviation Awareness Programme reflects CAASL's continued commitment to supporting the development of future aviation professionals and advancing the objectives of the ICAO Next Generation of Aviation Professionals (NGAP) Initiative, which aims to ensure a sustainable and competent workforce for the global aviation industry.
